Ants are one of the most common nuisance pests that we deal with in our homes. We can clean areas, kill every ant we can see only to turn
around an hour later to still find a new trail of ants again. So, how do you get rid of these pesky bugs? Well, if you have thoroughly cleaned
the area and removed the food source that they are after, that's a start, however, the fact that they found their way into your home is going to
make them keep coming back as long as they can find something to eat. Ants have been known to travel as far as a football field in length to get
to a food source. Sometimes that food source is only a couple of crumbs left on the counter..
Knowing the type of ant that you are dealing with comes in handy as well. If you are cleaning up all the food in your house and that's not even
the reason that they are there, you are spinning your wheels. Ants can sometimes be in your house for moisture and eliminating the excess water
in an area might be the best approach. Some ants may be going after sugary foods and others could be going after more starchy foods. Seasonality
plays a part in that as well.
No matter what the cause or species of ant that you are dealing with, the bottom line is, you don't want them in your home. Well, at Guard Pest
Control, we can help with that. Our INSPECT, CORRECT, PROTECT approach has proven to be the cure for these ant problems in any home. We start with
the inspection to determine where the ants are coming from and attack them at the source. We use products that force the ants to carry the product
throughout the entire colony so you won't have to worry about an infestation and can rest easy that your problem will be eliminated.

In Houston and from Katy to The Woodlands,
the most common ants home and business owners face are odorous house ants,
fire ants, crazy ants, pharaoh ants, acrobat ants and carpenter ants.
The Odorous House Ant is also commonly called the sugar ant as they are typically in search for foods high in sugar.
Their bodies are dark brown to black and they are about 1/16 to 1/8 inches long. These ants are very aggressive and have huge colonies.
Their nests are outside and they will travel any way they can to get into your home and they don't always take the shortest path. The nests
will be under rocks or other items but they can also nest indoors if the temperature is right and there is moisture nearby.
Curious as to why they are called an Odorous House Ant? If you happeen to squish a few of them in your cleaning process, you will notice a
very distinct odor coming from them.
Fire Ants are painful. If you've ever been stung by one, you surely understand. These ants are a dark reddish brown
and are approximately 1/8 to 3/8 inches in length. Without even looking at the ants themselves, the easiest way to tell if you have fire ants
is by their mound nests that they will create in your yard, often coming up at a curb or along the foundation of your home and sometimes even
coming up around items you have placed in your yard. There is no process of removing these nests and they must be treated. It is not recommended
to mess with these nests as the ants will sting you if you disturb their nest.
Pharaoh ants are either yellow or light brown in color and are frequently found in multi-unit housing or commercial buildings with an abundant source of food. They are known for being a major indoor nuisance ant and can spread diseases if not properly treated. These are one of the more difficult ants to get rid of and have been known to spread throughout entire homes and buildings. Don't try and take on this pest alone. Call us today!
Pharaoh Ants are a pale yellow ant about 1/16 inches and where you see one, you will see many. If their colonies get disturbed, they can move on and create multiple colonies from the one in a budding process. These ants can enter your home through many routes, the best course of action would be to follow them back to their nest to treat the nest with a product that will work it's way through the entire colony.
The crazy ant is small (about 2 - 3.5mm) and brown in color and live in warm humid climates, like Houston! The crazy ant gets its name from the way they move about the ground. Often you will find them looking like they are going crazy and not marching in line like most ants. Hence, crazy ants. These ants are mostly found outside but they are foragers. They are continualy hunting for food sources such as fruits, seeds, other dead insects and depending on the season can be in search of sugary or protien meals.
Carpenter Ants are one of the larger ants that we see. They are a large black ant that thrived in wood that is damp or rotted out by moisture. Swarming carpenter ants have wings and fly in large populations through areas looking for areas to nest. Most often this is when homeowners notice these pests as they come in droves. Often times they leave as quickly as they come in but not if you have created a perfect nesting/breeding ground for them. They may just stay a while. Carpenter ants are not wood destroying pests despite their name. These ants take over wood that is already destroyed and can hollow it out rather quickly. Needless to say, either way, there is a problem when you see carpenter ants in your home. Call us and we can help resolve the issue.
Acrobat ants are reddish and black in color and are about 1/16 to 1/6 inches long. When these ants are disturbed they can often hold up their back end like a scorpion which is why they are given the name Acrobat Ants. These ants can bite but normally feed on aphids or other insects. You can find Acrobat Ants living in old rotten wood such as tree stumps or wood piles. These ants also forage looking for sweets but mostly find their foods outdoors. These ants, while common in the Houston area are not as common to be a pest inside your house but can be an unpleasant surprise to run into a colony ouside of your home.

Joe was AMAZING. He was very professional and was able to come inspect our house within less than
24 hours of my initial request. He was thorough in searching our house for our rodent issue and it was
apparent that he is an expert. He explained everything to us in a respectful manner and helped us come
up with a "game plan" on how to prevent the rodent issue from ever happening again. I will be recommending
him to everyone I know who needs an exterminator!!
Joe was very helpful and informative. He not only did a very detailed inspection of my
home, he also taught us what to look for in the future as well as what steps we can take in our
travels to help prevent bringing these insects home.
Thankfully we were bed bug free, however, I would have gladly used his services if needed. The process he uses for extermination is superior to any other company I contacted before we chose this company. I will recommend this company to my friends and family for their exceptional services.
Joe was so friendly and I haven’t seen any ants since the extermination! Thanks Joe! 😃
